No other plant is as strongly associated with Provence (France) as lavender. It's considered the symbol of this region, and you can't imagine today without its stunning lavender fields, which luminously fill the landscape.

During the lavender blooming season, you can find it on roadsides, in fields, and in gardens, which can be explored along numerous routes, whether on foot, by bike, or by car, through this enchanting landscape.

Lavender not only looks and smells wonderful, but it also has several properties . It can be purchased in different forms: dried, or as a filling for scented pillows, as a perfume essence, in soap form, as a condiment, as honey, or even in paintings and photographs, as the image alone conveys good vibes.

Lavender cultivation in Provence

Lavender grows throughout Haute-Provence (around Sault). There are several types of lavender, including true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and lavandin (Lavandula intermedia), a variation of true lavender and a lavender hybrid.

True lavender grows mainly in the mountains of Provence between 600 and 1,500 meters above sea level and contains the most precious lavender oil known for centuries, which has great medicinal properties . However, true lavender is not as profitable as lavandin and cannot be harvested after one year, but only after two to four years. So it is not surprising that lavandin is increasingly found in Provence, gradually replacing true lavender.

Lavandin grows between 300 and 600 meters above sea level and is many times more productive than true lavender. From an economic perspective, this is certainly an advantage, but unfortunately, at the expense of quality, it results in a less curative essential oil. Lavandin is primarily used in the cosmetics and perfume industry.

Purpose of lavender

Lavender is a super versatile plant, as it looks beautiful, smells good, and can also be used to combat moths. It also has countless other uses and properties applicable to all areas: health, cosmetics, food, home, aromatherapy, decor, perfumery, etc.

Lavender Infusion

Lavender infusion is primarily drunk before bedtime to ensure a pleasant and peaceful sleep. It even calms restless people, or is recommended after a long flight when suffering from jet lag.
In this sense, the advice is to drink a cup of lavender after arriving at a destination, to have a peaceful sleep.
On the other hand, you can use organic tea in cases of anxiety —one or two cups of this beverage can do wonders—for example, drinking it on the eve of an important day. We could say that lavender is just as effective as other, more well-known plants we use to make our Tétique organic teas , such as hemp leaf tea or linden leaf tea . And if you want to lift your spirits, an alternative could be Energizing Green Tea .
