Apple Pie with Spelt Flour: Vegan, Juicy, and Easy!

Fruits and vegetables are among the most valuable foods we have because they provide us with a good dose of vitamins and minerals. Therefore, we can use fruit to make delicious desserts, such as an apple pie. What's more, these homemade desserts are healthier than those sold in stores, as we can add other, more beneficial ingredients.

Ingredients for apple pie with spelt flour

  • 150 g of spelt flour
  • 1 bag of baking powder (sodium bicarbonate)
  • 100 g of cane sugar
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 125 ml of oat milk (or other type of plant milk)
  • 100 g of applesauce
  • 100 ml of sunflower oil
  • Vanilla to taste
  • 500 g of Apples (e.g. Golden Delicious)
  • You also need: A little cane sugar optional
  • A little powdered sugar optional
  • A round cake tin (27 cm diameter)

Preparation: Mix the dry ingredients well in a bowl. Then, mix the milk, applesauce, sunflower oil, and vanilla in a separate bowl.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix with the mixer several times.

Peel and thinly slice the apples. Add the peeled apple slices to the dough immediately after cutting, leaving a handful for the topping.

The next step is to mix the dough a few more times until everything is smooth. Grease the pan and fill it with the dough. Garnish with the remaining apple slices and top with a little cane sugar.

Bake the spelt apple pie in a preheated oven at 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for approximately 55 minutes. After approximately 30 minutes, cover the pie with a piece of aluminum foil if necessary to prevent the top from over-browning.
